Venice, Italy
There is a plethora of quite talented
local artists around town selling
their work at very reasonable
prices.  You can get especially good
deals if you buy several pieces from
them.  They make great gifts.
We rode a passenger ferry to
Venice. This is the view as we

are coming in to dock.

This is Saint Mark's  Square as
viewed from the water.  This shot
was taken early in the day.  When
we were leaving several hours later
there were large puddles of water
everywhere from the rising tide.
"Saint Mark's Basilica".  Here you
can see the gilded Byzantine
mosaics in the archways.
Another view of Saint Mark's
Basilica from the other end of the
square.
A view down one of the approximately
150 canals which separate the
archipelago of 118 islands.  You can
see here that the exterior walls are
crumbling away.  This just seems to
add to the beauty and charm of the
city.
Outside dining is prevalent in
Venice along the waterways in in
the squares.
Me with one of the locals.  He was
friendly but very quiet.
The famous Rialto Bridge.  It is one
of only three that cross the Grand
Canal and also the oldest.  There
are a total of 400 bridges in the
city.  The stone bridge was
completed in 1591, replacing
several previous wooden bridges.
The Grand Canal as viewed from
the Rialto Bridge.  There is lots of
activity on this side of the bridge
with many shops and restaurants
along the boardwalk.
Another pretty canal view.
