Narita Japan
When visiting Narita, one of the
most relaxing things to do is to
visit the Narita Temple grounds.
Here is a two tiered pagoda on
the back side of the property.
This is a closeup of a three
tiered pagoda near the entrance
of the temple grounds.
Before entering the temple area
their is a cleansing basin to
cleanse your hands and your
mouth.  You fill a bamboo ladle
from the flowing water, pour
some of the water over your
hands and sip some of the
water from the ladle with your
mouth.
Also just inside the entrance is a
very large incense burner.  I
know nothing about Buddhism
but I assume this is also for
spiritual cleansing.
After a lengthy walk through a
very nice wooded area you
arrive at a couple of beautiful
coy ponds.
The shopping area of Narita is
very clean as you can see here.
There are many nice shops you
can casually browse through.
Unlike certain other parts of
Asia, the vendors here are very
courteous and do not hassle
and pressure you.
My friend and I enjoyed
a meal of grilled eel on a bed of
rice.  We knew the eel was fresh
because we watched the cook
kill, clean and grill them.  They
were very tasty!
There are a couple of ways to
get into Tokyo.  This general
ticket for the train is cheap but
gets a little crowded.  Every time
the doors opened more people
would shove their way in.  They
had the help of "Pushers" who
stood on the ramp and helped
push more people into the train
car.
The other way is to take the
"Express" train which is more
expensive but also a whole lot
more relaxing.
Not far from the train station in
Tokyo is the Imperial Palace.
We were not allowed to enter
the actual Palace area but we
could still view several
interesting buildings.
I assume this is possibly a
guard house on the moat
surrounding the palace but
without a tour guide, who
knows.  It sure makes a nice
photo though.
At night the city literally lights up
with electronic billboards
everywhere.
Of course, you can't leave the
city without buying some
dinnerware.  This store had a
great assortment of chopsticks.
