The Great Wall
Just a short drive out of the city is one
of several places to access "The Great
Wall of China." Before you can reach
the wall you must first "run the
gauntlet" of vendors who have set up
camp just outside the entrance. They
will literally block your way to try and
sell you some goods.
Once past the street vendors, you pay
a fee and are able to ride up to the
wall in a lift chair like the ski resorts
use. When you want to return you
have the option of either riding the
chair back down or climbing onto a
single seat tobagan and sleding down
the chute which is way cool. It
screams!
This part of the wall has been restored
but if you walk far enough in either
direction you will reach parts that have
not been reconstructed and are quite
difficult to walk on.

DOWNTOWN
When I travel in China my company does not
allow me to rent a vehicle, and for good reason.
This intersection mayhem near the pearl market
is typical. The best way to get around is by taxi.
The larger the taxi the higher the price. You
can negotiate. If the taxi you are in gets in a
wreck, pay the driver and leave immediately. If
you don't, they may blame the accident on you!

They definitely need to hire some better
translators! This sign in the park is referring to
a fishing pond near by where children can fish
(angle) for small Goldfish. The fishing lines
have no hooks on them but the Goldfish grab
onto the bait and the fisherchild is able to pull
up his/her catch. There is also hands on
pottery making for children and various
climbing toys.
I think they mean "World of Golf".
This canal runs right through the heart of the
city. The problem is that it reeks of raw
sewage! Hopefully it will be cleaned up
before all the tourists arrive.
Coal is the predominant energy source in
China. This is evident by the presence of
haze in many of my jphoto's. Here is coal
delivery rider.
Many old buildings are being torn down. The
bricks are cleaned up and transported to job
sites to be reused. Fortunately for the poor
animal the streets are fairly level.
